LOCAL HIDEAWAYS IN MECHELEN, BELGIUM

A fantastic Hideaway right in the middle of the bustling city centre of Mechelen. In a modernist building, Nele found her new passion: running a guesthouse. Only 3 rooms … all slightly different but equally atmospheric with all kinds of vintage finds that Nele carefully combined to create a cosy home.

And then Mechelen… what a great city it is! So many nice restaurants, shops, specialty shops and beautiful old buildings, I fell head over heels for it. Important though: “don’t spread the word!”

For Local Hideaways, I thought it appropriate to look for a few Belgian city Hideaways off the beaten track. Something a bit different from the usual suspects like Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels, etc. And so I visited two surprisingly fun cities: Hasselt and Mechelen. Both very different… but both guarantee a lovely (weekend) break. And of course you sleep fantastic in the right Local Hideaway… what else?!

SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT …

Continuing my trip to Mechelen, I found a Hideaway right in the middle of the bustling city centre. In a modernist building, Nele found her new passion: running a guesthouse.

Only 3 rooms… all slightly different but equally atmospheric with all kinds of vintage finds that Nele carefully combined to create a cosy home.

There is a communal kitchen with honesty bar and you can have breakfast in one of the nice breakfast shops in the neighbourhood (Nele has plenty of insider tips) or visit the nearby bakery and have breakfast in your room.

PERFECT CITYBREAK

And then Mechelen… what a great city it is! So many nice restaurants, shops, specialty shops and beautiful old buildings, I fell head over heels for it, it’s is my new Belgian favourite! Important though: “don’t spread the word!”
